Hi all,
I m using an ati video card and the fglrx driver too and had this trouble too. All the solutions mentioned above didn't run. I just disabled the ati driver notification in the ati catalyst control center and it works now.

NB: I leaved the line "KDM_AUTH_MASK=/var/run/xauth/A$1*" in my authatieventsd.sh file taken from Stefan solution cause the old path was wrong anyway.
