Of course I would finally manage to fix this shortly after reporting the bug. I still don't know what the problem was though. I had removed restricted-manager, restricted-manager-core, linux-restricted-modules, linux-restricted-modules-generic, linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic and nvidia-glx-new individually and reinstalled them but it didn't help. I just removed them all and then reinstalled them and now it works. Strange stuff.
