Wow, that sounds like extremely good news! However, I cannot reproduce this on my LG S1 Express Dual (Radeon Mobility x1600, fglrx 8.01, generic Gutsy kernel). :-(

Could you post your /etc/default/acpi-support and xorg.conf ?
