I've tried disabling RenderAccel in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf, without luck. The problem is still here in my fully updated 8.04.1.
Actually, the problem is worse now than before: I can't type any accented key in the console. When I press the accent key (') and then press any vocal, the screen remains muted. The console don't realize that I've just pressed the keys.
However, there are many text applications translated into Spanish which shows accented vocals, and these accented vocals are shown as garbage yet.
