I also tried this fix and it did not work for me.

I am using Ubuntu 7.04 with kernel 2.6.20-15-generic

My Laptop is an Acer 5100 with ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics

I was able to log in and out with no problems up till this day (I only installed Ubuntu a few days ago)
