I experience what I believe to be the same, however mine is characterized by a complete and total lock of the system. Mouse and Keyboard are not responsive, Xorg completely locks up. I cannot switch to another terminal, so I have no way of knowing what the actual CPU usage is. It seems to occur, however, whenever I have FireFox open.

Using 6.06, with a Nvidia Card, and a K7 kernel.
