I followed the instructions from mangouste06 and niclone above and now have functional wireless on an MSI Wind U100 with an rtl8187se / 8199. I am able to join WPA networks.
However, nm-applet doesn't detect the wireless being turned off and sometimes tries to connect to networks it is no longer in the range of (after suspend and resume). Overall, works fairly well.
