I contacted Realtek by email since nobody answered this bugtrack thread, whats the point in encouraging people to post here if nobody answers?
Anyway, they were fairly helpful and emailed me this driver to compile on Karmic, It works, i still get drop outs but it is not as bad as the stock driver. This is a better driver. I have found that it helps a lot to keep your connection alive by setting off a ping to somewhere (your router) and leaving it pinging all the time as a sort of crude keep alive.
