the issue was caused by conflict with package 'hibernate'
[code]sudo apt-get remove hibernate[/code]
solves the problem.

however please notice that package [B]hibernate [/B]is required by [B]laptop-mode-tools[/B] for the auto shutdown at low battery levels feature.
