This can be fixed by adding firmware. I build a deb package with new Atheros bluetooth firmware.

https://launchpad.net/~hanipouspilot/+archive/ubuntu/rtlwifi/+files/linux-firmware_1.144%2Bar3012_all.deb

Install this package and reboot. Bluetooth should work.

This issue has been fixed in all Ubuntu kernels. But linux-firmware does not contain AthrBT_0x31010100.dfu

The patched package is somewhat outdated now. Wish this were finally included in the official linux-firmware.

I meant included in linux-firmware, not just linux-lts-utopic. I am on 15.10 with the same issue, and the patch works, but it means downgrading the linux-firmware package.

I have opened a case (1767731) with the same kind of prlblem with Samsung subsystem. The problem occur in the new 18.04. On the older versions it works fine as well as on the other flavors like Mint (all versions), Kali, etc.
