Bug Description

In the recently released bugfix release1.2.3-0ubuntu1 of lightdm they broke existing auto-logins. Using this configuration auto-login was working...

[SeatDefaults]
autologin-user=foo
autologin-user-timeout=1
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
user-session=ubuntu

After the upgrade it stopped working. No countdown, no auto-login. Just sits on the login screen.

This is on 12.04 LTS.

Seems like they might have broke this somehow in the fix for this bug.

I think you are running the old version of unity-greeter (0.2.8). In that case the new lightdm applies the autologin timer but the greeter doesn't act on it. unity-greeter 0.2.9 is currently in proposed.

I've released unity-greeter 0.2.9-0ubuntu1 to precise-updates, which should fix this.

I don't use unity-greeter... I use lightdm-gtk-greeter. Will you be updating lightdm-gtk-greeter as well?

Re-opened the bug as the proposed fix doesn't fix the bug as reported. The bug as reported was against lightdm + lightdm-gtk-greeter, not the unity-greeter. The bug is still present when using lightdm-gtk-greeter.

status: Fix Released → In Progress

Could someone try lightdm-gtk-greeter 1.1.5-0ubuntu1.2~test1 from my ppa and check if autologin works with it? Thanks.

I tested the package from your ppa, lightdm-gtk-greeter 1.1.5-0ubuntu1.2~test1, with lightdm 1.2.3-0ubuntu1 using the lightdm.conf below. It still did not auto-login. Anything else you need?

[SeatDefaults]
autologin-user=liam
autologin-user-timeout=1
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
user-session=ubuntu

I've just tested this. The auto-login does work when the autologin-user-timeout setting is left out. Investigating.

Hi there,

The bug does also impact me.

Here my lightdm.conf
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-user=olivier
autologin-user-timeout=5
user-session=xubuntu
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter

[XDMCPServer]
enabled=true

And I confirm that the autologin-user-timeout does work only for the value 0 (i.e. I think useless)

Regards
