Using LibreOffice Version 4.0.4.2 and the problem is still present.

I realize this is a simple "fix" (i.e.: workaround) but why not simply change the "Numbering Followed By" setting from "Tab-Stop" to "Nothing" as the default?

An alternative would be to set the default font to a monospaced font, though that's a bit more draconian to fix this one issue.
