Darius Kulikauskas (dkulikauskas) wrote : Italic Greek letters have problems being rendered with elements in power and circumflex

Binary package hint: libreoffice

After upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit to Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit I have noticed that all of my previous thesis work had all of the Greek symbols changed from italic to no italic. I suppose that happened because there was iGreek character set introduced. With a bit of frustration I changed all of the parameters to italic. However, my problems did not end there. I've noticed that some iGreek letters are wrongly rendered when they have circumflex on them (e. g. {hat %ilambda}) or elements in power (e. g. {%itheta^(b)}). In the first case, circumflex is not visible at all or only the very bottom of it can be seen in the print or PDF export of the document. In the second case elements in power intersect with the symbol.

The problem can be fixed with a workaround like inserting "~" or "`" symbols to make elements not intersect each other or taking an iGreek letter to an empty (e. g. {^{{""}}^{""}}) power to make circumflex visible.

I have attached an ODT document with example for everyone to see what I mean. I've also attached pictures of what I mean.
