I updated to the latest openoffice in the PPA and same problem.

I installed gnumeric and it appears to open the .wb3 file good. Maybe missing some font stuff, but otherwise the data in them are fine.

I saved the .wb3 as .ods using gnumeric, but it did not preserve any of the formulas. Only the numbers/text remain. :(
Apparently because it is not fully implemented in gnumeric.

Saving the .wb3 to excel 97/2000/xp format retained the formulas.
