The solution from Geoff does not work at all for me. I did all suggested steps and still see absolutely no difference in appearance of the equations.
However, I have a feeling that the solution should really be as simple as this unless the font is hard-coded somewhere inside OO...
Btw, this is very good that somebody finally started to work on this issue because it is really of critical importance for scientists, students and other people who should open formulas from MS Word.
