Turned out the gvfs UCP was plagued by similar issues indeed. See comment 28 for the fix, requested backports to libreoffice-3-6 towards LO 3.6.6 as <https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/2729> and to libreoffice-4-0 towards LO 4.0.3 as <https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/2730>.
