I'm experiencing the same "crash-all-gtk-apps" symptom on my remote setup. Of
note is that the display in question is 16bit, the problem also appears at
24bit. My segfault, when running 'gtk-demo' happens in
_cairo_xlib_surface_show_glyphs:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

The client machine is Linux/Intel whereas the X server is running on Linux/
