I have a Silverstone LC20 case with the VFD display and I found this fix that worked for me and points to the problem:

The default now for the lirc_imon module is for LCD displays (not VFD).

Adding the following to /etc/modprobe.d/options and it solved my problem:

options lirc_imon islcd=0
