Affected too. IMHO it is a serious issue. Until there is a solution or workaround, my kwallet content is effectively gone.

I had kwalletmanager installed and working in Ubuntu 9.10

After upgrade, it stopped working. I used it recently before upgrade making it very likely that it was related to a change caused by 10.04.

Sympthoms are similar as mine. ps aux | grep kwall lists
kwalletmanager
kdeinit4: kwalletd [kdeinit]

But there is no window or tray icon appearing.

Killing kwalletmanager and starting it again from the shell result in this message:
Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)

Will try to move my .kde/share/apps/kwallet/main.kwl to some other machine if the need to access something becomes urgent.

Starting kwalletmanager via console typing "kwalletmanager --show" makes it at least usable. No tray icon, however. So closing the window makes it unusable again, such that one has to kill and start it using the console again.

same symptoms here, starting with --show displays kwalletmanager (thanks anton!), no tray icon either. Sucks.

To make the workaround a little easier, try the following script.

#/bin/bash
/bin/kill `/bin/ps aux |/bin/grep kwalletmanager|/usr/bin/awk '{print $2}'`; /usr/bin/kwalletmanager --show

#####
# This script can be added to a custom launcher so you can start it from a toolbar. The script kills all processes named
# kmanager, and then starts another with the --show command.

The issue seems to be related to the system tray. I actually managed to make X crash by fiddling with the ''Show manager in system tray'' setting of kwallet.

The bug is still present in the next LTS 12.04.1

People store their valuable keys in some application.
The application storing their keys stops working.
People loose access to their keys.
No sign to be seen that the makers of the app would care.

Same here (12.10). --show gives me

QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.

Very annoying. How can we force them to look at this issue?

I used 64bit 12.10, then 3 days ago my system updated to 13.04. I am *now* affected by this bug.

Using Ubuntu 12.04, even when I use: "kwalletmanager --show", the programme won't open. I get QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave. as well.

"kcmshell4 kwalletconfig" will bring up KDE Wallet Configuration is this the same as kwalletmanager? In any case the box for enable is unchecked, but kmail still seems to have the kwalletmanager running in the background.

To be honest, my ideal situation is to get rid of kwallet competely and enter my password everytime I start up kmail. I mean, save it for the session, but each session re-enter my password. I had to enter it every session until a few days ago and then all of a sudden I didn't.

I know most people are looking to have that situation, but for me, I like knowing that just because someone can get into my computer, doesn't mean they have automatic access to my email as well. I don't mind entering it once a day.

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
