Jonathan Thomas has explained better what I wrote.
I think that a good idea can be to remove the gradient in the KWin windeco for OpenOffice and other most used GTK applications like FileZilla, Inkscape and other.
System Settings -> Appearance -> Windows, Window-Specific Overrides tab.
