Bug Description

ii ktoon 0.8.1-1
on Ubuntu 7.10 amd64

Application is unusable - it doesn't start.

On start there is a "wizard", that asks for some "ktoon installation directory"
it is empty by default.
Setting it to own home directory doesn't work (Next> button is disabled),
same for trying to use /usr/shared/ktoon/

what the hell is ktoon installation dir - and why it is not set by default (and why user is asked for that in the first place?)

Ok, actually choosing anything allows to finish the "wizard"... but

1) it is not very visible on LCDs (the light-brown GUI enabled vs disabled button)
2) why ask?

Imho this wizard should be simply removed,
since there is no explanation what the program wants to get (the shared files, the bin file, or some dir in home to store projects?)

No idea what to enter as "installation directory", same thing here. Note you can click on "Finish", but it looks like something is missing (toolbar pixmaps?). I guess it must be looking for its installation directory.

In fact nothing works, you can't draw anything. The reason is that the plugins have been put to directory /usr/lib/ktoon/plugins, but ktoon looks for them from the "plugins" directory in the Installation directory, now pre-filled as /usr/share/ktoon.

A quick solution for this is to link the plugin directory under the Installation directory,

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/ktoon/plugins /usr/share/ktoon/

The package should be fixed, though...

This needs to be fixed. It is a very simple fix, but it is also in Debian systems too.

This makes the program look bad because it appears that nothing works. People shouldn't have to work to have an operating program, it should just work.

This bug is related to #251234 but is not an exact duplicate. This particular bug #188529 can now be closed because in Intrepid and later, when starting KToon the wizard does have working values pre-filled in the form fields, and does start up.

(The tools are still missing, but that's the substance of #251234, which is caused by Debian packaging policy of moving the .so files for the tools into /usr/lib This is clearly not what the upstream developers anticipated).
