I had kdenlive (and some dependencies, probably) installed from the PPA that's recommended on kdenlive.org, and my kdenlive still starts (although it now complains about missing "composite" filters). But when I installed kdenlive on a friend's computer we got to see the complaint about the missing SDL module, and kdenlive does not start at all.
