Bug Description
Binary package hint: libarts1-xine
When trying to open a directory in konqueror where are stored files from a digital kamera, thumbnail creation crashes after the first video file (only tested with motion jpeg avi files). It means other jpeg files won't get a thumbnail...
If I remove libarts1-xine then, all thumbnails are generated except video files.
I finally found the solution by installing libarts1-xine AND libxine-
Note: this bug also cause troubles for softwares which use konqueror thumbnails like digikam. See :

I confirm that Fabien's fix solves the problem.
If, after upgrading from Kubuntu breezy to dapper, you notice that:
- Noatun no longer plays ogg, mp3, mp4, videos
- Konqueror doesn't generate video thumbnails or stops generating image thumbnails when a directory contains videos
- Digikam misses videos
- kio_thumbnails keeps running in the background but nothing happens (use "top" to monitor that)
Add multiverse to /etc/apt/ sources. list: ch.archive. ubuntu. com/ubuntu/ dapper universe multiverse
deb http://
execute:
apt-get update
apt-get install libxine-extracodecs
I have tested this on 2 Kubuntu laptops.
Many thanks to Fabien for pointing out the bug and providing a work-around.
