I can confirm this too (KPDF 0.5.5/Ubuntu edgy/HP LJ 2200d): kpdf prints as duplex (longside), regardless of the setting in the printer dialog or the printer driver's default setting (via CUPS). This reminds me on bug 47649 (kpdf always prints as portrait and never as landscape), which also describes a case where kpdf ignores the appropriate print settings
