I think the same happens to me with 3.5.10 & hardy:
FYI: I can't even select it to print duplex, it claims the driver doesn't support it or something. The printer is capable to print duplex.
1) Printed a two page document, one page/side: duplex 2) Printed a ~20 page document, 4 pages/side: no duplex
But I'd guess this will not be fixed: people are moving to KDE4 (and yes, you have your acroread that works better..) and Okular
