It seems that Matthew Flaschen has been nominated for fixing this bug in Hardy.
Cups is one of those package that can be obviously be installed on a Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS: *Long* Term Support.
I don't know if there's a way to prioritize tasks, but Ubuntu 8.04 Server will exist for 5 years (!) and should definitely be a priority. This version is widely installed because this is a server distribution: you want it to be stable and reliable. Cups being unable to print correctly as a print server in a shared network (that's the point of 8.04 Server LTS) is a pitty.
Is there somewhere with or at least instructions to build Cups in a PPA?
