I don't know is the short answer. Unfortunately one of the drawbacks of volunteer projects is that the developers are sometimes otherwise occupied - having said that, Kurt you're welcome to commit the proposed patch once trunk is unfrozen.

The core terminal emulation was ported from KDE 3 but that is all that remains in KDE 4 - everything else is new code.
