Dirk confirmed yesterday that the patch is incomplete. It does not depend on the amount of files or the size of the share, though. The problem persists with an existing .directory.lock file in the respective share. Deleting it was a workaround for me, but Dirk wants to fix the stale lock issue completely and reassigned it to him.
