Bug Description

I searched for duplicates, as this seems pretty generic but could not find any.

I can duplicate it across two systems runnning KDE4 (.0 and .1).

I have two external devices for my laptop a 500GB SATA external HDD via USB2 and a 2GB sd card. Both of them are available in the "Devices recently plugged in" widget, but not mounted. To mount the drives and access them I have to open Dolphin first for them to mount, which is a bit of a pain when I want to play music as I can't just open Amarok and play.

I wondering why the drives don't automount ? they do in KDE3.5. I understand the different desktop architecture involved but the underlying system is the same?

Some disk info:

fdisk -l output for drives (using sudo)

Disk /dev/mmcblk0: 2032 MB, 2032664576 bytes
64 heads, 63 sectors/track, 984 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 4032 * 512 = 2064384 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000

        Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/mmcblk0p1 1 984 1983619+ 6 FAT16

Disk /dev/sdb: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x000b8fcd

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 60801 488384001 83 Linux

Systems:
KDE4.1, latest PPA packages
Kubuntu 8.04
Dell XPS M1330, Dell Inspiron 8600

Thanks

This feature would really be nice.

I *need* this feature - I have Keep (rsync) backup my system to an external USB drive periodically and if I can't have this drive automounted at boot then I can't automatically do backups.

Adding an fstab entry for my external drive does not work (ie doesn't mount at boot). If I add an fstab entry I can *manually* mount the drive but this then screws with the devicenotifier.

Wouldn't this just be a matter of the "New Device Notifier" mounting the device when the item is connected ? It can't be too difficult, Dolphin already does it...

This is being discussed here..

It'd be nice to have a way to sync up kde.org bugs with lp kubuntu bugs. I never know where to lodge them...

Hello there,

Kubuntu currently does not have the manpower necessary to implement this feature as a distribution, so we are closing this report. Worry not, though, because your wish item is still being tracked by KDE at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164053 . Once KDE implements this feature, we will include it in the Kubuntu release which contains the KDE version the feature was implemented in.

Thanks for understanding, and have a nice day.
