Afraid not - I've tried adding and removing all the widgets, but my problem is that some of them take up more space than they need to - a slightly dodgy illustration would be that the system tray is this big

but it takes up this much space on the panel (which, when moving it, can be seen as a highlighted space around it)
At the moment I've got an application launcher, task manager and system tray which work together fairly happily, but I have no space to add anything else.
