Technically, yes. But there are other drawbacks -- rubberband (if I understood correctly) works as "do it from scratch". It is frustrating and tiresome because it does not allow correct only the "errors", you have to correct everything.
However, if we are up to find something new it has to be not worse than classic resizing. Otherwise I don't see a point. And it also be good to point out a living user (not imaginary) who is confused with classic resizing applied to plasmoids (it is the person who is surprised that you cannot shade the panes in Dolphin).
