As a people photographer I often have portraits as my desktop wallpaper. Unfortunately, the one positioning I used most in KDE 3.5 "Maxpect" doesn't appear to be available in KDE4. The only options I see are "Scale & Crop", "Scaled", "Centered", "Tiled" and "Center tiled".
The "maxpect" option used to maximize the background image size while keeping its aspect ratio, and without cropping anything off the borders.
Binary package hint: kdesktop
