Indeed, this is the main reason I didn't upgrade the KDE 3.5 on my notebook to KDE 4 yet.

I had a look into the SSL code and it seems like it was "ported" without much change from KDE 3 and before that from KDE 2 and maybe KDE 1 or whatever. Its quite a messy piece of code and I guess nobody really understands what it does now that George Staikos isn't around for maintaining it anymore (or is he?).

From what it looked to me it seems like the whole stuff should be rewritten and KDE 4 is in dire need of a new and modern SSL (and TLS) framework, more or less like what Phonon and Plasma and Akonadi brought. But unfortunately it also seems like nobody is interested in that non-flashy, but important part of the KDE infrastructure.

As obviously nobody is really interested in the dull task of creating a modern SSL framework for KDE in his/her sparetime, maybe Novell or somebody else could sponsor a developer to do it for money.
