Bug Description

The deb package is missing the depencency to libwayland. As consequence, no windows decorations make KDE hardly useable.

$ kwin --replace
kwin: error while loading shared libraries: libwayland-egl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Work-around: Use the compiz windows manager (system-settings -> standard components -> window manager).

Just to make it crystal clear:

I'm talking abount a normal saucy kubuntu install, no ppa or anything stuff. Kubuntu is _not_ working.

Harald Sitter (apachelogger) wrote :

A stock Kubuntu 13.10 install will hold the missing file because it is provided by the package libegl1-mesa-drivers that kde-window-manager strictly depends upon:

dpkg -S libwayland-egl
libegl1-mesa-drivers:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libwayland-egl.so.1

apt-cache show kde-window-manager | grep libegl1-mesa-drivers
Depends: kde-runtime, libc6 (>= 2.14), libegl1-mesa (>= 7.8.1) | libegl1-x11, libegl1-mesa-drivers,...

So the question is: do you have anything with the name hybris installed? And if not what happens if you try to install libegl1-mesa-drivers?

Hhm, libhybris _is_ installed (as a dependency of powerd) but I don't needed neither. libegl1-mesa-drivers _is_ also installed.

libhybris-common1 _is_ installed (as a dependency of unity8). I try unity from time to time, but at present I normally use KDE.

When I deinstall libhybris, the problem is gone. For me as 'end user' it was very difficult to grasp this. Thank you for support and sorry for the noise. For me, it has really looked like there is something wrong with kwin...

Thank you for support.

It happend to me to after installing android-tools-adbd which in turn installed libhybris - uninstalling libhybris fixed issue, but I have NO IDEA why installing libhybris would break KWin

I was bitten by this as well today. I had installed android-adbd a while ago, and upon reboot, kde was windowmanager-less. Took me a while to find this bug, and it turns out that removing libhybris and it's dependents fixed the problem. with libhybris installed kwin refuses to run at all complaining of an umet wayland dependency. How is this not a bug?

I installed android-tools-adbd and immediately ran into this issue after rebooting. Its a good thing I found this thread--I've been shooting in the dark for hours...
