This is not a bug, you need to install libxine1-ffmpeg.

I hope this help.

Same on lucid lynx.

describes another workaround:

Cannot find demux plugin for MRL dvbpipe.m2t
Solved this by uninstalling Kaffeine through the GUI and then installed it by following the instructions at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kaffeine. No more "Cannot find demux plugin for MRL dvbpipe.m2t" after this :)

I did uninstall Kaffeine through the GUI, but I do not think there is any difference between uninstalling through terminal. Here is a solution with the terminal only.

sudo apt-get remove kaffeine

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get install kaffeine libxine1 libxine1-all-plugins phonon-backend-xine

This solution is tested on Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) 64bit. But should work on 32bit and Ubuntu Karmic (9.10). As you may see the key in the solution is installing the extra packages "libxine1 libxine1-all-plugins phonon-backend-xine". Of course all needed packages should be installed when installing Kaffeine, but for some reason it does not.

Please include libxine1-ffmpeg as a prerequisite to the kaffeine package, as the dvb-t drivers are included in the kernel, and users should be expecting this to work out-of-the-box.

Had the same problem after installation of Kaffeine using Synaptic.
No need to uninstall and sudo update thingy.
Just went back to Synaptic and found libxine1-all-plugins had not been installed, so I just installed it.
Therefore I totally agree with Jan's last paragraph

I installed Mythbuntu 11.10 and installed kaffeine with:

sudo apt-get install kaffeine

I got this same error.

I then did:

sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg

After stopping and restarting the program, it worked fine.

I guess what needs to happen to resolve this is to include libxine1-ffmpeg in the dependencies for kaffeine. I would try and fix it myself, but I don't know how to do that.

- DVB T works on kaffeine fine in Lubuntu /ubuntu

*No needed:
phonon-backend-xine - have no candidate - /changed or old package - but works without this package fine
