I started having this problem in Kubuntu, after upgrading to the unsupported 3.5.7, a little while ago. Yesterday I cleaned up some obsolete packages, and I found I had ivman installed, but it didn't show as a supported package in synaptic. So, I uninstalled ivman, and voila, everything is working just fine. I am not sure if this would help, but I thought I should let you know.
