Actually, irssi *does* have a menu file, below /usr/share/menu/irssi. It doesn't use the freedesktop files though, and I'm not completely convinced it should. It is a textbased application, and enabling the "Debian" menu subtree should be possible through installing the menu-xdg package. Also, given that the discussion wether the debian menu system or the freedesktop menu system is better/recommended to use I rather would like to stick with the old menu system.
