It's been installed and tested on a PowerEdge T410 running 12.04.2. So far the commands seem to be working fine.
There are, however, some additional features that may be required in impitool that aren't in an official release yet. Many of those features are listed here:
For example, the ipmitool mc setsysinfo commands to publish OS information to service processor aren't in the released version of the code, but, they are in the cvs repository. Fedora 18 looks to have already pulled this in: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=857878
