FTR, after discussion with Dave on IRC, I rejected his other uploads from the queue because they were straight backports. The SRU team has already rejected this due to a lack of mitigation for regression risk to users, but Dave had missed the thread in ubuntu-release@ about this.
The current status of this bug is that we're still waiting for someone (or some team) to contribute acceptable updates for Xenial and Yakkety. As far as I am aware, Trusty is still undecided, but seems unlikely due to the early userspace issue.
