- try to open inkscape doing "DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 inkscape" if tcp connections to X are allowed
- ssh -X you@localhost , and start inkscape.
You are going to experience the trouble.
I will gladly provide any other information needed to troubleshoot if you tell me more about it. I joined my lspci from my laptop where I did one test (but we tested with at least 5 different hardware situations, including on the laptop of Jon. A Cruz at LGM 2009 :-) .
