Problem remains in Inkscape 0.92.3 and is a showstopper-level bug. Creating scientific posters is not technically impossible, just suicide-inducing!

Restarting software has no effect, nor rebooting.

Two colleagues at the University have finally given up and moved over to Illustrator.. they will be missed :`<
