Problem is still alive in 0.92. Reporting from OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 on Mac Mini 2012. @Cosmic's fix does not help. All other layers are hidden and locked, and still, editing text is slow as a pinecone in a pudding. Uses 80%-100% of CPU.
It feels like text manipulation somehow executes a search on all other objects for each user gesture, even for the objects on hidden layers. Could there be an accidental O(n) algorithm in the code, written especially after 0.48?
