It's very likely you have the pata driver blacklisted.

sudo rm -f /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-pata
sudo update-initramfs -u

That should resolve it.

Also, please let the maintainers handle confirmed or not. You haven't confirmed anything other than assumptions.
