Bug Description

After upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 it became impossible to enter passphrase for LUKS root partition in graphical dialogue. Ctrl-Alt-Delete worked fro rebooting and on the second boot the text mode came up and the passphrase could be entered.

Now after upgrade to 15.04 I no longer can reboot in the graphical mode with Ctrl-Alt-Delete with my wireless logitech keyboard. I managed to find old wired USB keyboard that behaves exactly the same as the the wireless was in 14.10. No input in graphical mode but rebooting is possible, text mode works fine.

In fact, I was hoping that upgrade to 15.04 will solve the problem but it got worse.

I have tried adding modules hid_generic, hid-logitech, hid-logitech-dj to module list for initrd as suggested by different bug reporst. No change there.
I have tried changing BIOS settings but only disabling Legacy USB option made grub boot menu unresponsive.
Both keyboards are working fine once the system is fully booted.

I have noticed that when the boot goes to text mode the wired keyboard is unresponsive for a short period in the passphrase dialogue and comes to live after flashing its lights (probably some driver is loaded behind the scene?).

I have noticed that fully booted system has hidpp and hid_logitech_hidpp modules loaded. I added them to initrd and now the wireless keyboard behaves identically to wired one. I still cannot type the password in to graphical mode but I can now reboot with Ctrl-Alt-Detele.

Still it would be nice to make the USB keyboards work with graphical boot.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

I checked Ubuntu 23.10 (mantic) and hid-logitech-hidpp is included in the initramfs there:

$ lsinitramfs /boot/initrd.img-6.5.0-10-generic | grep hidpp
usr/lib/modules/6.5.0-10-generic/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-logitech-hidpp.ko.zst
$ find /lib/modules/6.5.0-10-generic/ -iname '*hidpp*'
/lib/modules/6.5.0-10-generic/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-logitech-hidpp.ko.zst

Do you still experience issues typing the password in to graphical mode?
