After a recent upgrade, I now have Invalid UTF-8 in the indicator in place of my name, screenshot attached.

I get the same thing in 12.04 LTS but only with remotely mounted global accounts not with local accounts.

I have the same problem with non-local users using NIS. You can rproduce by creating a /etc/passwd entry that looks like this:

Most of the session menu, including the part that displays the username, has been rewritten for 13.10. Could someone who was experiencing this bug please test for it in indicator-session >= 12.10.5+13.10.20130717-0ubuntu1 ?
