limiting the number of accesspoints inside the indicator menu is still on the table. It's just a High priority, so we will get to that ASAP.

I would love to have the thing implemented in the system-settings as you described, but currently it's not possible. The best we can do is to move the active access point to the top and scroll the view so that it does not get "lost".
