3. How reproducible is the problem?
100%

4. Steps to Reproduce:
 4.1. Setup smartcard authentication.
 4.2. Login to Ubuntu desktop using default settings

 a. Actual Results:
indicator-messages-service crashes; apport popup appears; "envelope" menu is empty

 b. Expected Results:
Indicator loads normally, messaging menu can be used.
