Ok, I must apologize. I still have the memory leak.....I was running the wrong gnome-power-manager. A little while ago I accidentally installed g-p-m from the upstream release into /usr/local/bin. This was overriding the standard Ubuntu g-p-m in /usr/bin.
In summary, the problem is not fixed. The leak is still just as bad as it was.
