Subject: Non-free logo included in main

Package: imagemagick
Version: 5.5.7.9-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Debian's imagemagick package includes the ImageMagick logo, which is
apparently not DFSG free. There are a number of files in the package
which contain the logo or some part of it.

In /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/Copyright.txt.gz, the following appears:

> 8)
> The ImageMagick logo is copyright Pineapple USA Inc. It is freely
> distributable, however, modifications to the logo are not permitted.

At http://www.imagemagick.org/ , a prominent paragraph states:

> The ImageMagick logo is copyright Pineapple USA Inc. It is freely
> distributable, however, modifications to the logo are not permitted.

The word "logo" on that site is a hyperlink, which, when clicked, shows
what is clearly the same logo as that in this file, among others:

  /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/logo.png

A larger version of the logo appears when one runs /usr/bin/display
without supplying an image as argument. I am unable to determine where
the larger version comes from after a cursory check of the source, so
it's not completely certain that it is part of this bug.

Other files which contain the logo, or part of it, include:

  /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/magick.png
  /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/examples.jpg
  /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/screen.png
  /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/top.jpg
  /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/www/Magick++/ImageMagick.png

The inability to modify those files would appear to make them
DFSG-nonfree (see DFSG #3). Read the comments on Bug#212895 and search
the archives of debian-legal (there are many pertinent threads) for
justification of the claim that images are required to meet the DFSG as
much as software. In particular, I cite this post from Bruce Perens:
