Calabacin (raulgarciag) wrote : scim enabled installation does not allow accented letters on non-gnome apps

Binary package hint: scim

If scim is being used, accented letters cannot be written on non-gnome apps.

Spanish layout uses a two-key press in order to write an accented letter (i.e. you click ´ and then a in order to write á).

I'm not sure if this is a scim related problem, or if its related to the window manager (gnome, kde...).

Steps to follow:
-Go to System->Administration->Language support.
-Add Spanish (I also installed Japanese, but you probably do not need to install it to reproduce the error)
-Enable 'Complex character writing' (you will probably have to reboot)
-Go to System->Preferences->Keyboard and make sure that you have Spanish(Spain) (I also installed greek, but you probably do not need to install it to reproduce the error)
-Install some non-gnome application. Try for example Konqueror from the repositories, or download Opera from it's web.
-Go to any non-gnome application and, using spanish layout, try to write any letter with any accent, such as á, it will write ´a.

I reinstalled fresh again doing JUST these steps, and the problem happened again. All packages are up to date.
